Instanyl®

Product description: Instanyl® is a prescribed intranasal fentanyl spray for the management of  breakthrough pain in adult cancer patients already receiving opioid therapy for chronic pain. Instanyl® was developed in-house by Nycomed. It was successfully launched in the EU in the second half of 2009.

Medical need: Nearly half of all early-stage cancer patients and up to 90% of those in later stages suffer the sudden onset of brief but acute ‘breakthrough’ pain. This refers to intermittent flare-ups that overcome the patient’s regular pain medication.
