Curosurf®

Product description: Curosurf® is a hospital-administered treatment for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature babies. RDS is caused by a lack of surfactant, a slippery substance that lines the alveoli (tiny air sacs) of the lungs, helping to keep them inflated during the process of inhalation and exhalation.

Since its introduction in 1992, Curosurf® has become a well-established therapy that has been used to treat approximately 800,000 premature babies. Curosurf® is in-licensed from
Chiesi Farmaceutici.

Medical need: Premature babies can be born with little or no surfactant, which makes breathing difficult or impossible. The resulting medical condition, known as respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), affects approximately 1% of newborns and is a leading cause of death in premature babies.
