Animal welfare

Nycomed undertakes testing on animals only when there are no alternative means to understand the effect or side effects of a medicine. It is done to avoid testing in humans or as a prerequisite for initialising clinical tests to document the effect of new medicines.

When carrying out animal testing, Nycomed does so in accordance with health authority requirements. Nycomed also respects animal ethics and all health authority regulations concerning vivisection. All our laboratories are assessed to ensure they observe animal ethics and meet requirements for animal testing.
