In Phase I clinical trials, a potential drug is tested for the first time in human subjects, usually healthy volunteers. The primary objective is make assessments about drug safety. Clinicians also learn more about the mode of action of a potential drug and how it is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted by the body.
